How did I & S and Design work well into the IDU?

Individual & Societies worked well into the IDU, which is Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as it covered the factual aspect of SDGs and taught me about what are SDGs, the history behind them and the impact of SDGs on the world. On the other hand, Design worked well into the IDU because it taught me how to display information so that it is informative yet interesting to the audience. This included learning about how to edit your blog theme, what makes a blog interesting, the use of semiotics in blogs and the elements of a blog. These two subjects link together for this IDU because we were asked to make an attractive and informative blog about SDGs.

What were the strengths and weaknesses of the IDU?

The strengths of the IDU was that I was able to use semiotics (a topic which we touched on in Design) in my blog through the use of mind maps and pictures. This made my blog more interesting towards the audience. Apart from that, I was able to include all the information needed in my blog posts.

The weaknesses of the IDU was that we did not actually learn a new topic in the Design section of the IDU as learning how to make a blog is very similar to making a website, a unit we had already learned in Grade 8. This lead to us being disappointed as we had taught that we would learn something more challenging in Design class. Apart from that, I felt that I did not have enough time to finish the task and had to rush in order to finish my blog. I also did not understand some of the topics that I had to write about.

What are the improvements that could be made?

Improvements that could have been made to the IDU are that more time is given to us to complete the task as I felt that we were rushed to finish the task. Apart from that, the task could have been more interesting in terms of the Design section of the assessment. This could have been done through asking us to do something that we had not done before such as an animation video about Sustainable Development Goals. Next, I could have also managed my time better so that I would have had more time to produce a blog with higher quality. I could have also asked my Design and Individual & Societies teachers when I was unsure so that I could have had a better understanding of the topic and task.

Do you think your blog was successful?

I think that my blog was successful as I was able to include all of the information needed in my blog. This includes what are Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), how they impact a certain country and how we can help achieve the SDGs. Apart from that, I used a creative way to present my information because I had used mind maps as it would make my information easier and more interesting to read for my audience compared to if I just put paragraphs of information. This contributes to the application of semiotics in my blog.
